Area Information
Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park:
Lake Neusiedl is one of the most fascinating regions of the country. This steppe lake is a habitat for a variety of animals. The Lake Neusiedl Region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was declared a national park in 1993 because of its varied ecosystems. The open landscape of the Seewinkel (“lake corner”) with its ponds and meadowlands facilitates the observation of rare species in their natural habitats. You can get a first impression of this landscape with a day trip, a horse-drawn carriage ride, a horse ride, a bicycle tour or a walk.

Rust Hill Country:
Covered with vineyards, this chain of hills west of Lake Neusiedl is the most traditional wine-growing area of Burgenland, with famous towns such as Rust and Mörbisch.

Lake Neusiedl-Leitha Mountains Nature Reserve:
Here you can find all the characteristic landscape types of Burgenland in one spot: large, contiguous forests, protected dry grasslands and fallow lands with a fascinating variety of fauna and flora, a cultural landscape with vineyards and over a thousand cherry trees, and finally the lake meadows between the human settlements and the broad reed zone of Lake Neusiedl.

Sights:
Open-air museums, galleries and artists’ studios invite to meet the region’s arts and culture scene. The baroque palaces of Eisenstadt, Halbturn and Kittsee testify to the region’s imperial history. Local museums such as the village museum in Mönchhof tell about daily life in an agrarian society. Esterházy Palace is the landmark of Eisenstadt, capital city of Burgenland, and the province’s most famous cultural sight. Halbturn Palace is famous for its various exhibitions.
